The Report Line is one phone number for captains and landings. You call it from the dock after a trip, say what happened the way you would on the radio, and hang up. The recording becomes a report in your own voice, with the audio and a transcript, published on Fish City. This guide covers how it works and how to get set up.
The number
The greeting tells you the call is recorded for publication. Then you talk. Keep it to the trip: where you fished, what bit, what it bit on, what the water did. Two or three minutes is plenty. Hang up when you are done.
What happens to the call
- The recording is transcribed, word by word.
- A short caption is written from what you said, in your words, and becomes the report body. The audio and the full transcript publish with it.
- Calls are screened before they publish. Off-topic or abusive recordings do not run. Keep it about the fishing and you will never notice the screen.
- Your report shows on the Captain Reports page and in the Fish City app, credited to your boat.
Reports are the story. Your fish counts stay the numbers. A call never changes a count.
Verified numbers publish. Unknown numbers wait.
Calls from a cell number we have verified as yours publish on their own. A call from a number we do not know is held until we confirm who it belongs to, so nobody can publish a report under your boat's name from a phone we have never seen. Getting your number verified before your first call is the whole setup.
How to get set up
- Send the setup form on the Captain Reports page: your name, your boat or landing, the cell number you will call from, and your email. If you would rather write, email the same details to team@fishcity.app. Both reach the same review.
- Confirm the link we email you.
- After your next trip, call (619) 535-FISH from that number.
The Report Line is free for verified operators. Pro tools for running your operation are priced separately on the pricing page; you do not need them to call in.
Landings
A landing can set up the Report Line for its fleet. Send the boats and the numbers that will call, and each boat's reports publish on Captain Reports and in the app, credited to that boat.
