Oceanside sits at the north end of San Diego County with three distinct fishing venues and four tackle shops serving them. The harbor on the north side hosts a sportfishing fleet that works the local kelp for calico bass, sand bass, and yellowtail, with seasonal tuna offshore in summer. The Oceanside Pier — the longest wooden pier on the West Coast — runs nearly 2,000 feet over the surf and produces perch, mackerel, and the occasional halibut.

Two shops cover the offshore angler. Pacific Coast Bait & Tackle on South Coast Highway is a full-service saltwater shop staffed by anglers who fish SoCal, Mexico, and the long-range fleet — stocked with Penn, Shimano, and Daiwa conventional reels, with live bloodworms in the bait case year-round. Oceanside Sea Center Tackle at 315 Harbor Drive sits inside the harbor landing, carries Hookup Baits and Candy Bar lures, and handles California fishing licenses on-site.

The other two shops serve different anglers. Oceanside Pier & Bait is the mid-pier bait stand — rod rentals around $8 an hour or $35 a day, plus the usual pier rotation of squid, mackerel, shrimp, mussels, and seasonal bloodworms. Angler’s Tackle on West Vista Way is the inland general shop, opening at 6 AM on Saturday and Sunday — earlier than most North County shops.
