New Captain Pete Sportfishing runs out of Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay, operated by Melynda Dodds as Lighthouse Charters LLC. The single-boat operation departs year-round for salmon, rockfish, lingcod, and striped bass on the San Mateo County coast.
The boat
The New Captain Pete is 53 feet long, cruises at 15 knots, and carries up to 38 anglers. Captain Mike Cabanas, formerly of the HuliCat, runs the boat with over 9 years of charter experience, backed by an experienced deckhand who helps with tackle, fishing tips, and cleaning your catch. A 2021 engine overhaul added twin John Deere engines, and the boat carries a Furuno fish finder, a Furuno 36-mile radar, and an Echotec GPS. The cabin is heated, with separate heads for men and women.
Trip types
New Captain Pete runs open-party and private-charter sportfishing trips for salmon, rockfish, lingcod, and striped bass, along with seasonal whale-watching trips during the winter months. Reservations run through the boat's own online booking system.
