Tackle Shops in Huntington Beach
2 shops — hours, live bait, and directions.
Huntington Beach has two tackle shops with different personalities. CharkBait! Sportfishing on Bolsa Chica Street is a specialty offshore retailer — rods built for slow-pitch jigging, popping, trolling, and surface iron; reels from Avet, Accurate, and Okuma; and a catalog of jigs, irons, and terminal tackle that mirrors what Southern California's offshore fleet actually runs. The storefront functions partly as a will-call window for the shop's larger online operation, and staff are working anglers with offshore experience. CharkBait carries no live or frozen bait — it is tackle only.
Fishermen's Hardware on Gothard Street is a full-service shop serving both saltwater and freshwater anglers since 1991. The family-owned counter carries rods from Shimano, Penn, and Daiwa and handles custom rod building and rod repair. The shop is open seven days a week, which matters for weekend-morning anglers gearing up before the sand bass bite starts.
The local fishery these shops serve runs wide. The Huntington Flats — shallow sand bottom just outside Huntington Harbor — hold calico bass and sand bass year round, with sand bass peaking through the summer spawn. The Huntington Beach Pier produces barracuda at the end and surfperch and halibut in the surf zone below. Offshore kelp paddies and the Orange County coastal waters hold yellowtail and seasonal bluefin tuna accessible to sportfishing boats launching from Newport Harbor to the south.
