Tackle Shops in Long Beach

2 shops — hours, live bait, and directions.

Long Beach has two places to buy tackle, and they are different kinds of shop. LB Fishing Supplies — also known as Caivo Fishing Tackle — is the city's standalone tackle store, at 2260 Long Beach Blvd in the central part of the city, away from the water. Long Beach Sportfishing runs an on-site tackle shop at its Berth 55 landing at 555 Pico Ave in the Port of Long Beach; the landing describes it as having "everything for a fun and successful day on the water," sells California fishing licenses, and rents rods. For an angler heading out on a Long Beach sportboat, the landing's tackle counter is on the way to the dock; for a shore, pier, or harbor trip, the Long Beach Blvd shop is the in-town option. Long Beach is also home to Pierpoint Landing at Rainbow Harbor, another sportfishing operation running inshore, island, and offshore trips, though its tackle counter is not confirmed — call ahead if you plan to gear up there.

Long Beach fishes San Pedro Bay, the working harbor it shares with San Pedro. Calico bass, sand bass, halibut, and mackerel hold in the harbor and the nearshore zone, with calico and halibut available year-round. Yellowtail, barracuda, and bonito move in as the water warms through spring and summer. On offshore trips in summer and fall, the fleet reaches bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, and dorado. The Horseshoe Kelp — a structure spanning roughly 10 miles along the Long Beach and San Pedro harbor edge — is the area's most consistent ground, holding calico bass and halibut year-round and drawing yellowtail and white seabass in the warmer months. Catalina Island, reached on full-day and overnight trips, adds calico bass, yellowtail, white seabass, and seasonal bluefin in summer.

If you're deciding where to stop, it comes down to your trip: the Berth 55 landing shop for a sportboat departure, LB Fishing Supplies for an in-town restock. Live-bait availability is not confirmed at either shop's own sources, so call ahead if your trip depends on it.
