Tackle Shops in Morro Bay
2 shops — hours, live bait, and directions.
Morro Bay's two tackle shops sit a short walk apart near the Embarcadero, both tied to the sportfishing fleet that runs out of the harbor under Morro Rock. Virg's Landing has outfitted Central Coast anglers since 1954; its 2,400-square-foot tackle store on Market Avenue carries rods, reels, jigs, swimbaits, and terminal tackle, and acts as a California Fish and Wildlife license agent (cash only) and assists with rod rental at check-in for the landing's sportfishing fleet. A short walk down the Embarcadero, Morro Bay Landing runs a full bait-and-tackle shop at its own docks — live bait when available, rod and reel rentals, and California fishing licenses — open daily 9 AM to 5 PM.
Morro Bay opens onto Estero Bay and the reefs that run from Point Buchon north to Cayucos. Rockfish and lingcod are the bread and butter over those reefs once the groundfish season opens in spring. California halibut hold on the sand flats through the warmer months, and Chinook salmon are trolled in spring and early summer when the season is open. California's ocean salmon seasons are set annually and have been heavily restricted in recent years, so check current Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations before you run.
Both shops are near the Embarcadero, so a bait-and-tackle stop is on the way to the dock.
