Virg's Tackle Emporium
About Virg's Tackle Emporium
Virgil and Frieda Moore brought sportfishing and live-bait fishing to Morro Bay in 1954 when they founded Virg's Landing — the oldest party-boat operation on the Central Coast. The Moore family later sold the operation; Ron and Lisa Casey bought it in November 2022, with longtime managers Gambit Ruiloba and Chris Trujillo staying on through the transition. The Caseys re-powered the Rita G with two new engines and continue running the John Rowley Biggest-Baddest Lingcod Competition.
The tackle emporium at 1169 Market Avenue stocks rods and reels selected for harsh saltwater conditions, lures, jigs, swimbaits, line, terminal tackle, and rod rentals for boat passengers, alongside California fishing license sales — staff carry "somewhere over 150 years of fishing experience" combined, per the shop's own copy.
Hours: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. See the California tackle directory. See also: Morro Bay Landing Tackle two blocks down on the Embarcadero and Tackle Warehouse in San Luis Obispo.
