Half Moon Bay Sportfishing & Tackle
About Half Moon Bay Sportfishing & Tackle
Sherry Ingles bought the Half Moon Bay landing in 2005 with her husband Capt. Bob Ingles — Bob has been a Bay Area party-boat captain since the 1960s. They met on a 1981 rockfishing trip, married in 1986, bought the Queen of Hearts in 1990, and rebranded the landing to Half Moon Bay Sportfishing & Tackle when they took it over from the prior Capt. John's operation.
The shop's signature is a 24-hour bait vending machine — "one of the first in California," per their own copy — installed outside the front door at 27 Johnson Pier, accepting cash or credit card. Live bait inside, plus frozen anchovies, sardines, grass shrimp, and mackerel.
The Queen of Hearts (50-foot sportfisher, captained by Wallace Klughers — who came aboard as a customer and worked up to owner) runs rockfish (primary), salmon during PFMC ocean season, Dungeness crab combos, lingcod, and albacore when in range.
