Redondo Beach sits on the south rim of Santa Monica Bay, and its two tackle shops split between the harbor and the street. Redondo Sportfishing Tackle, at 140 International Boardwalk inside King Harbor, operates alongside a sportfishing landing that has run since 1956; it carries tackle, rod rentals, and fishing licenses for anglers fishing the bay and the breakwall. A couple of miles inland at 2427 190th Street, Just Fishing by Pete is an owner-operated shop known for fishing tackle, rod-and-reel repair, custom rod building, and local advice. Between them, a Redondo trip can start with a boat and gear at the harbor, or a serviced rod and a deep tackle aisle off the water.

Santa Monica Bay off Redondo is an inshore fishery that turns over with the seasons. Calico bass hold on the King Harbor breakwall and the nearby reefs year-round, California halibut work the sand flats through spring and summer, and sand bass fill in over the flats. As the water warms, barracuda and bonito push in, with the occasional yellowtail and white seabass within a short run of the harbor. The deeper reefs and the Redondo Canyon edge hold rockfish and sculpin in the cooler months. Redondo Beach's sportfishing boats run from King Harbor.
