Davey's Locker Tackle
About Davey's Locker Tackle
Davey's Locker has run sportfishing out of the Balboa Pavilion since 1965; in 1969 the company actually bought the Pavilion under then-president Phil Tozer to give the Catalina-passenger service a permanent terminal.
Eight boats run from the dock today: Western Pride (75 ft, 88 passengers), Patriot (72 ft, 76 passengers), Aggressor, Thunderbird, Nautilus, Freelance, Bongos, and Blackfish — half-day through 1.5-day exotic-species runs. The counter at 400 Main is the rigging desk for all of them: rod rentals, terminal tackle, California day licenses, and bait pricing all itemized at the window. Live-bait wells are built into the boats themselves.
Davey's Locker is the sister operation to Newport Landing across the harbor — same parent, different fleet, two separate walk-up tackle counters within the same Balboa Peninsula. See the Newport Beach charter directory for the broader OC fleet. See also: Newport Landing Tackle across the harbor and Hogan's Bait & Tackle in Dana Point.
