Angler's Choice
About Angler's Choice
Luc Ofield's Angler's Choice has sat on Rosecrans Street, about a mile from the Shelter Island landings, since 1996. Ofield built custom wraps for much of the long-range private fleet, which is why the offshore selection — Shimano and Daiwa two-speeds, Calstar and Seeker blanks, and 200-plus brands across the floor — outweighs the freshwater aisle.
The shop is an authorized warranty service center for Penn, Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum, Calstar, Seeker, G. Loomis, and Okuma, with reel parts kept in stock and turnarounds run in-house. California and Mexican fishing licenses are always at the counter, useful for Coronados or Baja runs out of the nearby landings.
Hours are Mon–Sat 9–6, closed Sunday. One thing to know: Angler's Choice doesn't sell live bait — the live tank is at the landings. See the San Diego tackle directory for the landing-attached options. See also: Squidco Fishing on Barnett Ave and Slugg Fishing in Poway.
