Fisherman's Landing Tackle
About Fisherman's Landing Tackle
Fisherman's Landing has been on Shelter Island since 1965; the standalone tackle shop dates to 1986, when Doug Kern took over as general manager and built it out from a counter into a full retail operation. Kern is still GM forty years later.
The bench leans hard offshore — Penn, Shimano, Daiwa, Avet, Accurate, Okuma, Calstar — and the long-range fleet that homeports here (American Angler, Royal Polaris, Excel, Royal Star, Searcher, Shogun) often gets first crack at new gear from manufacturers. Assistant manager Rick "Rock Cod Rick" Maxa runs the shop's Tackle Tips YouTube series and is a regular guest on Let's Talk Hookup.
The counter also processes Mexican fishing licenses and FMM tourist permits for boats running the Coronados or Baja. Hours: 5:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. daily. See the San Diego sportfishing fleet for the boats this counter outfits. See also: Point Loma Sportfishing Tackle and Seaforth Landing Tackle.
